Went to the Queen of Hoxton launch party on Wednesday. Colourful mix of moustached boys, lipsticked ladies and free paper party page fodder. The bar staff were very smiley, always a joy to find in Shoreditch where a scowly pout is de rigueur. But most important of all, the choice of musical entertainment was nice, nice, nice. I was lured by the chance to see Kitsune favourite David Sugar do his laptop live thing and he didn’t disappoint. The one man band – simultaneously knob-twiddling, groove-building and singing with soul – played a near-seamless set that included the melancholic, melodic, shuffling love song ‘Although You May Laugh’. Brilliant. Then I made a dash for the last tube, cramming my face with a saved half sandwich and tripped on the pavement in front of three suited and smug city boys. Not so brilliant. Ho hum.
